Junior Hockey Thriving in Carmarthenshire

Junior Hockey Thriving in Carmarthenshire

Working closely with Hockey Wales, the national governing body for the sport, Officers are creating strong links with clubs in the county, helping to share best practice with the emphasis on improving junior hockey through both school and club development.

With the emphasis on enjoyment and participation, a junior mixed league has been set up to provide an outlet for junior players who may not otherwise have the opportunity to play in a game environment.  The league has also provided an outlet for those attending hockey sessions held within the leisure centres, that aren’t linked to a club ensuring that the league is open to all children aged between 10-15 years.

Half way through the season and the league is going well, with over 100 boys and girls turning out on a Sunday morning, once a month to play hockey, the future of the sport is looking very bright. The league has moved around the county from Carmarthen Leisure Centre and Amman Valley Leisure Centre to Teigrod as well, encouraging all children from every corner of the county to get involved.

The remaining fixtures are as follows…

Day/Date Time Location
Sunday 5 February 10-12  Amman Valley Leisure Centre
Sunday 5 March  10-12 Teigrod
Sunday 2 April 10-12  Carmarthen Leisure Centre
